GENERAL APPEARANCE : Small, well balanced, thick-set dog of dignity and quality.

BEHAVIOUR AND TEMPERAMENT : Leonine in appearance with alert and intelligent expression. Fearless, loyal, aloof but not timid or aggressive.

HEAD : Large, proportionately wider than deep

CRANIAL REGION :
Skull : Broad, wide and flat between ears ; not domed ; wide between eyes.
Stop : Pronounced.

FACIAL REGION : Profile flat with nose well set between eyes. Black pigment essential on nose, lips and eye rims.
Nose : Short and broad, nostrils large, open and black.
Muzzle : Wide, well wrinkled with firm underjaw.
Mouth : Level lips, must not show teeth or tongue. Firm underjaw essential.
Eyes : Large, clear, round, dark and lustrous.
Ears : Heart-shaped, set level with the skull and carried close to the head, with long, profuse feathering. Leather not to come below line of muzzle.

NECK : Very short and thick.

BODY : Short.
Back : Level.
Chest : Broad, with good spring of ribs ; well slung between forelegs with distinct waist.TAIL : Set high, carried thightly, slightly curved over back to either side. Long feathering.

LIMBS FOREQUARTERS : Short, thick, heavily boned forelegs ; bones of forelegs slightly bowed, firm at shoulder. Soundness essential.

HINDQUARTERS : Hind legs lighter than forelegs but firm and well shaped. Close behind but not cow-hocked. Soundness essential.

FEET : Large and flat, not round. Standing well up on feet, not on pasterns. Front feet slightly turned out.

GAIT / MOVEMENT : Slow, dignified rolling gait in front. Typical movement not to be confused with a roll caused by slackness of shoulders. Close action behind. Absolute soundness essential.

COAT HAIR : Long, straight with profuse mane extending beyond shoulders forming a cape round neck ; top coat coarse with thick undercoat. Profuse feathering on ears, back of legs, tail and toes.

COLOUR : All colours and markings are permissible and of equal merit, except albino or liver. Parti-colours evenly broken.

SIZE AND WEIGHT : Ideal weight not exceeding 5 kg (11 lbs) for dogs and 5 ½ kg (12 lbs) for bitches. Dogs should look small but be surprisingly heavy when picked up ; heavy bone and a sturdy well-built body are essentials of the breed.

FAULTS : Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree.

N.B. : Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum.

Aspectul general

Câine de talie mică, bine proporţionat cu o alură nobilă şi plină de demnitate.

Caracteristici.

Aspect leonin, expresie vigilă şi inteligentă.

Temperament.

Curajos, loial, independent, nu este nici timid, nici agresiv.

Capul şi craniul.

Cap mare, relativ mai larg decât adânc. Craniu larg şi plat între urechi; nu este convex; larg între ochi. Trufă scurtă şi largă, cu nări largi şi bine deshise, de culoare neagră. Fangul larg, rugos, cu mandibula solidă. Profil plat, cu trufa bine poziţionată între ochi. Stop pronunţat. Este esenţială pigmentaţia neagră a trufei, buzelor şi conturului ochilor.

Ochii.

Mari, rotunzi, de culoare închisă, limpezi.

Urechile.

Sunt în formă de inimă, înserate la nivelul craniului şi purtate lipite de craniu, prevăzute cu păr lung şi abundent. Cartilajiile auriculare nu coboară sub nivelul fangului.

Gura.

Buze aderente care nu permit să se vadă limba şi dinţii. Este esenţial ca mandibula să fie solidă.

Gâtul.

Foarte scurt şi gros.

Membrele anterioare.

Scurte, groase cu osatură grea. Oasele sunt uşor arcuate. Este esenţial să fie solide, în special la nivelul omoplaţilor.

Trunchiul.

Torace scurt şi larg; coaste bine arcuate şi spre anterior. Linie dorsală dreaptă.

Membre posterioare.

Mai uşoare decât cele anterioare, dar solide şi bine structurate, închise dar fără vaccinism. Soliditatea este esenţială.

Labele.

Sunt late şi plate, nu sunt rotunde. Sprijinul nu este pe metacarpiene şi metatarsiene. Labele anterioare sunt uşor rotate spre exterior.

Coada.

Sus inserată, purtată uşor încurbată deasupra spatelui la un lat sau două de degete. Este prevăzută cu păr lung.

Mersul.

Rulaj lent şi plin de demnitate spre anterior. Acest mers nu trebuie confundat cu mersul cauzat de subdezvoltarea scapulelor.

Roba.

Părul este lung, drept, formează o capă în jurul gâtului ce extinde până în regiunea scapulară. Păr tector lung, cu subpăr abundent. Franjuri lungi pe urechi, faţa posterioară a membrelor, labe şi coadă.

Culoarea.

Sunt acceptate, fără nici o diferenţă, toate culorile cu excepţia albinismului şi a culorii ficăţii. Petele trebuie să fie bine delimitate şi distribuite uniform.

Talia.

Nu este fixată. Greutatea ideală este de 5 kg la masculi şi 5,5 kg la femele. Câinii trebuie să fie de talie mică, dar surprinzător de grei; osatura grea şi structura robustă sunt esenţiale.

Defecte.

Orice deviaţie de la standard este considerat un defect care se penalizează în funcţie de gravitate.

Notă.

Masculii trebuie să aibă doi testiculi de aspect normal, bine coborâţi în scrot.

Intr-adevar, aceasta rasa veche de peste 2000 de ani a fost un privilegiu al Curtii Imperiale din China, dar pina a schimba denumirea rasei, de a crea aceasta stupida confuzie doar pentru citva euroi in plus e un pas mare, sau poate corect ar fi o gogoasa mare, pe care oamenii de rind o inghit, fie din nestiinta, fie din rusine fata de "expertul" care va vinde un pui....
